It is with deep fondness that the Third Academy family remembers Nomi Whalen.
There was always a story to share. There was always a welcome embrace. There was always pride in what Nomi referred to, as, ‘our school’.
As Third Academy’s Honourary Patron, Nomi not only lent her name to the school, but also offered sage advice over tea in her “enchanged cottage” in Canmore and allowed us to honour her as a Hidden Hero at our Annual Gala 2016. Frank Sissons said it best: “Nomi truly cared about family, people, and community.”
Yes, she has been part of the happiest day of many a married couple’s bliss. She joined Calgary City Council to ‘make a difference’. She was always a ‘grande dame’ in every new adventure, new cause, and new day that she stood up for. And yes, she lived life ‘to the fullest’.
Her greatest love: Ed Whalen. What a gift to have been loved and be loved in return.
Thank you, Nomi, from the bottom of our hearts. You have made a difference in the lives of Third Academy’s children, families, and staff. One day, our paths shall cross again…
